nce you’re confirmed at the Resort, plan your fun! Gallows Gourmet is our Gift Shop as well as our Concierge Desk and will arrange your car rental, water sports activities, dinner reservations and other amenities such as en-suite spa treatments prior to your arrival or while you are “on island.” They also provide in-room provisioning upon arrival – juices, wine, beer, welcome baskets, snacks and breakfast items, so you can relax and enjoy that very special first evening or morning in paradise. Their phone number is 340-693-7730 or go to their website.
Although there are plenty of beautiful beaches and things to do, St. John’s close proximity to St. Thomas and the British Virgin Islands gives you many opportunities to discover their beauty as well with “day trips.” Either private charters or public ferries operate frequently between St. John and St. Thomas and the British Virgin islands of Tortola, Virgin Gorda, and Jost van Dyke. (If you plan to go to the BVI, make sure you bring your passport OR your birth certificate and a picture ID). Our Concierge Desk can advise you of all fares and schedules.

How do we get to St. John?
Please advise us of your flight number, arrival date and time so we can meet you at the St. John ferry dock.
St. John doesn't have an airport, which keeps our island small and quiet. St. John visitors fly into St. Thomas’ Cyril King Airport (STT) on major airlines including Delta, American, Continental, United, and US Airways. Then it is a short taxi ride and ferry ride from St. Thomas to St. John.
Getting to the Resort from St. Thomas Cyril E. King airport:
Contact the taxi dispatcher outside the baggage claim area at the airport for a taxi to the Red Hook ferry dock. This currently costs $12 each (if more than one person), including a luggage fee.
The ferry to St. John leaves every hour on the hour from 6:00 a.m. until midnight from Red Hook on St. Thomas.
The cost of the ferry is currently $5 per person each way, plus baggage costs.
Our complimentary shuttle will meet you at the Cruz Bay ferry dock on St. John.
Another ferry choice, yet with less frequent service, is the Charlotte Amalie Ferry service, which is a ten-minute taxi ride from the airport and costs $7 per person with bags. Please note that this schedule changes often, but is scheduled to leave for St. John at 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 4pm, and 5:30pm. The $7 ferry ride from downtown is about 45 minutes, but features the gorgeous scenery of St. Thomas’ south shore area. If using this alternative, please call the Resort at
776-6434 before leaving the airport so that we know which ferry you will be arriving on. Our complimentary shuttle will meet you at the Cruz Bay ferry dock on St. John.
Our Concierge Desk can also arrange a private land and water taxi at an additional cost. |
What should we bring?
Pack lightly! Many guests find that they bring too much clothing and unneeded personal items with them. St. John is a very relaxed atmosphere and not much is needed to enjoy your vacation. Beach attire and beach shoes, flip-flops, a hat for shade a plenty of sunscreen are priority. All dining, except for a few restaurants, is very informal and shorts, collared shirt, and sandals are fine, or you will feel comfortable in “Island Fancy” wear. You will mainly wear shorts and a T-shirt. You may also wish to bring the right shoes for hiking the trails in the National Park. No need to pack a hair dryer, iron, or beach towels, as they are provided in each room. We also provide beach chairs and a cooler in each room for you beach excursions, and beach necessities (water, ice, sunscreen, beverages) are abundantly for sale around the island. We recommend that you include essential items in a carry-on bag such as medication and one night's worth of clothing (and your bathing suit!) just in case your luggage is delayed.
How close is the resort to town?
We are located very close to town, (290 steps!) and considering the limited parking space in Cruz Bay, guests consider this to be an added benefit.
Do you have a beach?
The entrance to the ocean is considered a “coral beach." We have sandy area on the shore with hammocks and loungers, and different levels of sunbathing decks along the shoreline and around the pool.
How safe is St. John?
St. John is considered one of the safest islands in the Caribbean. Given its small population, it is ideal. We always recommend using common sense when leaving articles on the beach or in your car, but overall, St. John is a very friendly and gracious island.
How far away is the National Park and its famous beaches?
The Virgin Islands National Park makes up over two-thirds of St. John. The North Shore beaches start just outside of town, or a 10-minute drive from the resort. If you prefer to walk, it will take you about thirty minutes. But remember, bring water and plenty of energy, as St. John is very hilly!
Are there ATMs on the island?
There are two ATM's on the island, one within a 5-minute walk of the property.
Do we need to rent a car?
We are so close to town, it is not necessary to rent a vehicle for your entire stay. However, it is definitely worth it for a day or two to explore the rest of our beautiful island. Vehicles may be rented through our Concierge in the Gift Shop.

|
Are there laundry facilities on St. John?
We have guest laundry facilities on property for guest use. Tokens can be purchased at the Front Desk for $2 for a wash and $2 (and up) for a dry. Our Gift Shop sells small boxes of detergent.
Can we reserve a specific suite?
Yes, you may request a specific suite. It is very rare that we are unable to comply with your request after it has been booked. In the rare case that we have to move your room, we will call you to let you know.
Do you have a restaurant at the resort?
ZoZo’s Ristorante, a fine dining Italian restaurant, considered the best on the island, is open for dinner. Our Gift Shop has breakfast and lunch items as well as snacks, beverages and treats. The closest grocery store is about a 10-minute walk. |
Do you allow children?
We are geared to adults, thus children under 5 are not permitted and children under 12 are not recommended. The suites are open to allow the Caribbean breezes to blow through, which means that sound travels through well. The terrain around the Resort does not lend itself to the safety of small children.
Is there snorkeling nearby?
Yes. The snorkeling off our point is excellent! You can bring your own gear or rent from the Gift Shop. We also have a swim platform to lounge upon.
What about water activities?
Our Activities Desk in the Gift Shop books activities, dinner reservations, spa treatments, and many other activities. The Gift Shop also rents snorkeling gear.
Are there any island customs we should know?
Our local islanders are very friendly and gracious people. One of their most coveted customs is to say, “Good (Morning, Afternoon, Evening), how are you?” before starting a conversation, and ending an answered question with “Thank you.” You will notice a difference in their manner if you remember what your mother taught you a long time ago!
Also, wearing bathing suits in public is not only unacceptable; it’s against the law. You will want to wear appropriate clothing when off the beach. |
Is the water safe to drink at the Resort?
Yes, we have a desalination plant on property, so we make our own water that is safe to drink.
What is Suite St. John, and why do they advertise suite rentals at Gallows Point Resort?
One owner markets and takes reservations for his own suites. While the suites and services are comparable, our deposit, payment and cancellation policies are more flexible.
Island Trivia: The Virgin Islands does not participate in Daylight Savings Time. Thus in the summer months, St. John is the same time as Eastern Daylight Time, and during the winter months, we are one hour ahead of Eastern Standard Time. |
